IWOCP Iowa State Fair 2010
Letter from Sandy Gookin, IWOCP State Fair Chairperson

Iowa State Fair 2010         August 12th through August 22nd

It's that time of year.  Yes, we are getting ready for the Iowa State Fair, August 12th through the 22nd.

I am looking for volunteers to cover these dates.  The Fair offers 2 free passes plus free parking for those who demonstrate.   This is our chance to promote the art we love so much.  Over the years, we have had several new members join becasue of our time at the Fair..  If you have not demonstrated before, it is a fun event.  Members who have participated in the past say that they really enjoyed it.

I would also encourage all of you to enter at least 8 items (it only costs $5 to enter 10 items and there are many categories to choose from).  The more items we have, the more space we get.  We don't want to lose the  space we have now.

New painters can enter under Novice as well as other categories.  I hope our teachers will encourage their students to at least enter the Novice category.  We had 10 entries in this category last year - an increase from the year before.

Areas where entries for 2009  were low included lamps, bowls, eggs, technique not mentioned, jewelry or miniature, and pen work.  When you are painting, consider these categories.

To obtain entry forms, you can go to the State Fair web site at
www.IowaStateFair.org the first part of June to download the forms or email CompetitiveEvents@IowaStateFair.org to request an entry.  You may also call the State Fair and they will mail you the entry forms.  The telephone number is 1-515-262-3111 Extension # 207.

Please note that all entries have to be in before July 1st.  That is very important.

If you need help, call or email me at 515-967-6296   or
SG5009@aol.com

Let's make 2010 the best State Fair ever.  Please call or email me to volunteer.  Two members per club would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Sandy Gookin, State Fair Chairperson
