Dear Painters,

Where has this summer gone?  It has been so hot that I have not been  outside a great deal!  But that left time for painting...yeah!

I want to tell you about some happenings coming to the IWOCP this  year.  First   I want to remind you of the Oct. 1 Board meeting being held at the   Story City Community Center from 10 until 3.   A light brunch, lunch
and a demonstration by Alice “Sam’ Wofford of Sherwood, Arkansas will  e available for only twenty dollars.  At the Board meeting, Sam will  be  demonstrating “cutesy birds” and designing.  Sam is available for  a seminar after our meeting; this would be a great experience for  your club.  My club is having her do a seminar on zebras.  Call me if  your club is interested in this educational and fun experience!

You need to make reservations for the Board Meeting and can do so by  calling or e-mailing  me or Judith Wachter at 641-347-8856 or   jwachter202@gmail.com

There will be numerous studies of artists from the 60s, 70s and 80s,   blank china (mostly plates, cups and saucers) and many vials of paint  for sale at the board meeting.  These items  came to me from the home  of Avis Arnold of Ames.  These were given to me and I am using them  for the IWOCP money maker for this year.  These are in wonderful  condition and will be at great prices.! This was very generous of  Avis and her family!
Another fund drive will be provided by Paige Gray taking three  pictures of pieces of your choice using her light tent.  The cost  will be fifteen dollars ($15.00) to you and you will get professional  looking pictures on a disc that you can enter into contests  or have  printed, etc. Only five dollars a piece!  We thank Paige for this idea and work.   She will be available at the Fall Board Meeting.  Bring your pieces  if you are interested!  We are paying the postage for this project,  but the rest of the money raised goes to IWOCP.

April 21st is a date to mark on your calendar.  It will be our Spring  Board Meeting and will again be in Story City. The demonstration will  be by Vicky York of Leander, Texas.  She will be showing how she does  flowers, hummingbirds and carving.  Vicky is available for a seminar  prior to our Board Meeting.  Call me, if I can help arrange this!

Plans are being made for our 2012 IWOCP convention, The WOW  Factor...Porcelain Painting!  Vendors are being lined up and  we are  going to have some new faces this year! We hope to have an “Honor Gallery”  for current and former Iowa  teachers.  A brief biography, maybe a picture, perhaps examples of  their work, etc. will be in a special viewing place.  I am excited  about this...so put your thinking caps on and help us with this new
project!  Glida Jones has agreed to be in charge of putting this  together for us.

This is an exciting time to be china painter.  So much information is  being freely shared and so many different techniques are being  created!  The information is easy to access with seminars, the  internet and club members.  There is room for different styles from  traditional to modern.  We can all learn from each other!

Sincerely,

Judy Gile, 1483 Cherry St. Rd., Creston, Ia., 641-782-7606,

Hello Painters,

Wasn’t this past year and the wonderful “Splash of Color” convention terrific?  Lorrie Bacon, the clubs from area 3 and Mr. Lorrie Bacon,  also known as Doug, did a fantastic job.  This will be a hard act to  follow, but those of us in area 4 are going to do our best!

I hope your brushes are flying and turning out lovely pieces to enter into the Iowa State Fair this summer.  Entering deadline is July 1  and it only costs $5.00 to enter ten (10) pieces...that is a  bargain!!  To learn more about it go to   www.iowastatefair.org  or  call your county extension office.  You can enter online or by snail
mail.  We need you to enter to maintain our space showing this  beautiful art to the public.  My gosh, think of the number of pieces  if only a third of IWOCP members entered ten pieces!  Let’s do it!

A date to mark on your calendar:  Oct. 1, 2011 will be our Fall Board  Meeting.  It will be from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00.  A great guest  artist  will be presenting the demo.  Her name is familiar to many of  you.  Alice “Sam” Wofford of Sherwood, Arkansas will be demonstrating  how she designs and paints her wonderful animals, florals and  portraits.  The cost is twenty dollars and it will be held at the  Story City Community Center at 503 Elm St. in Story City, Ia.  Make  your reservations by calling Judy Gile, 641-782-7606 or Judith  Wachter at 641-347-8856.  Let’s show Alice an Iowa welcome!

Put another note on the calendar for our Spring Board Meeting for  April 21, 2012 with Vicky York as a guest artist.  Think gorgeous  flowers and hummingbirds which are her signature subjects.  Same  place, same cost, and the same bargain!

Both artists are available for seminars (three days) prior or after  the state board meeting.  Give Judy Gile a call for details...this is  a wonderful opportunity for your clubs!

The 2012 convention theme is The WOW Factor... Porcelain Painting.   Dates for the event are May 24, 25, 26, 2012 with May 23 as setup  date.  It is to be the same place as this year and for the same  price.  Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites NW 4800 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines Ia.

Please enjoy your summer, stay safe and continue sharing your  porcelain painting.  I hope to see you or your work at the Iowa State  Fair!
