The Upper Midwest Regional Porcelain Art Show 2010 is shaping up to be a show you will not want to miss.  This first ever six state show, hosted by the WOCP of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, will be held at the Grand River Center in Dubuque, Iowa, May 20, 21, 22, 2010.  35 vendors/artists will be displaying, selling, or teaching. Paint-a-longs will be presented by Nancy Benedetti, Stephen Hayes, Barbara Ramsey Snow, and Randy Wollett.  Whether your preference is for portraits, flowers, scenery, or embellishment, you are sure to find something to excite you among the 28 demonstrations being offered.  Make plans now to attend this fist ever regional show, “Masterpieces on the Mississippi”.  For hotel information, vendor listing, show schedule, demonstration schedule, contests, and pictures of show raffle pieces, visit the Iowa web site iwocp.org or the Minnesota web site porcelainartmn.org or contact the sponsoring state presidents.  Pre-registration forms and information will be mailed out around Feb. 12th. 

The IWOCP Spring Board Meeting will be held at the Newton Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, Newton, Iowa, April 10, 2010, at 10:00 AM.  (Guest Artist to be announced).  Cost $20.00. More information on this meeting will be mailed to IWOCP club presidents.

We hope all of you are busy painting your “masterpieces” for the contests at our six state “Masterpieces on the Mississippi” contests at the Upper Midwest Regional Porcelain Art Show in Dubuque, Iowa, on May 20, 21, 22, 2010.  Contest themes are: Life along a Winding River, Life in the Forest, Life in the Flower Garden, and Life outside the Box – something for everyone!  Don’t forget we also will be having museum competitions for each state.  Each individual state will have a museum display table. Voting will be by state.  All WOCP members are eligible to vote in each state’s competition.   With six states participating, we are hoping for lots of wonderful entries.  There will also be a youth exhibit so encourage children and grandchildren to participate.

Our schedule of demonstrators has not been finalized, but we plan to have 3 paint-ins and a design help clinic on Thursday afternoon, 12 demos to choose from on Friday, and 6 demos to choose from on Saturday.  A fun set-up dinner will be held on Thursday, a wonderful Mississippi themed dinner and silent auction on Friday, and a Saturday Mississippi themed breakfast.  There will be a show raffle of  8 painted china pieces by our guest artists and a well know artist form each state.  Along with this, each state will have its own fundraising table. We will keep you posted on what each state decides to do for its fund raiser. 

Vendor space is filling up so we encourage all you vendors to get your contracts in soon.  Let’s really fill the vendor floor. We will do our best to accommodate all your needs.  There is camper parking next to the event center. Just think, you can reach Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin WOCP members with this one show! A great savings on travel expenses for you!

We have exciting news about our 2010 Upper Midwest Regional Porcelain Art Show.  The WOCP of Illinois has notified us that they will be joining us for this show.  There are now have six states participating in this venture.  We think this is going to be a wonderful show and  hope you are planning to attend.

The theme for the 2010 Upper Midwest Regional Porcelain Art Show, “Masterpieces on the Mississippi”, is meant to reflect the truly masterpiece quality of some of our members painted pieces.  We hope you are planning to enter some of your “masterpieces” in the museum competition this year, and in the additional contests we will be sponsoring; “Life Along a Winding River”, “Life in the Flower Garden”, “Life in the Forest”, and “Life Outside the Box.  Get out your brushes and paints and start creating! 

The show will be held at the Grand River Center overlooking the beautiful Mississippi River in Dubuque, IA, May 20-22. 2010.  Lodging will be available at the adjacent Grand Harbor Resort and Water Park. The states of Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, & Wisconsin will be sharing the show responsibilities. The Dubuque, IA, Porcelain Artists Club will be coordinating plans at the local level.

There are many amenities within walking distance of the convention center; The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, Stone Cliff Winery located in the fully restored Old Star Brewery Building, the Dubuque Shot Tower (a Civil War era Dubuque landmark), the Diamond Jo Casino, and the River Walk (a biking and walking trail along the banks of the Mississippi). Also, there will be trolley rides of historic downtown Dubuque from the hotel every 30 minutes. You might want to plan a mini family vacation to take advantage of all there is to see and do.

Don’t forget the Iowa fall board meeting at 10:00 am on September 26, 2009, at the Newton Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, 3000 N 4th. Ave E, Newton, IA.  Randy Wollett of Jefferson, WI, will be demonstrating. We will have rolls and coffee, lunch, snacks and door prizes. Cost is $20.00.  Send payment and reservations to Deb Tokheim, 604 12th Ave N, Clinton, IA.  I hope to see many of you there.

It is exciting to have Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, & Wisconsin collaborating on the first Upper Midwest Regional Porcelain Art Show, “Masterpieces on the Mississippi”.  While the concept of a regional show is new, the presidents of the five states feel a combined show will benefit clubs and vendors alike. All five states will be sharing in the show responsibilities. The Dubuque Porcelain Artists club will be coordinating plans at the local level.

Our thanks to Jane Wright for the two years of dedicated service she has given as President of the IWOCP.  Thanks also to the retiring officers and this year’s show chair Kathy Lewis and her staff.  We have appreciated and enjoyed their talents and hard work.  We hope we can continue the high standards they have set.

Please mark your calendars for the fall board meeting on Sept. 26, 2009 10:00 AM at the Newton Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, 3000K N 4th Ave. East, Newton, IA.  Rolls, coffee, and lunch will be provided. The afternoon presenter will be Randy Wollet.  Cost is $20.00

We will be trying something new for our 2010 convention.  The show will be a regional one, held in Dubuque, IA, and hosted by Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin WOCP.  Watch for more information as plans for this exciting show are announced.
